Our Story

After 25 years on both sides of the enterprise technology equation, we arrived at a hard truth: In a sea of generalists, the specialist is king.

This story is personal to us — and probably familiar to you.

We have sat across from staffing firms that claimed they could fill any role, in any technology stack, in any industry, at any level. When pressed on what they actually did best, the answer was always a version of the same thing: “We can find you anyone.”

That answer means nothing. A firm that can do everything has depth in nothing.

We watched the same pattern play out across enterprise technology organizations: agencies winning business by saying yes to every requisition, then delivering mediocre candidates for roles that required real domain fluency. The client settles. The hire underperforms. The search starts over. The project slips.

OpenNova was built as a direct response to that pattern.

We do not try to be everything to everyone. We specialize in the domains where enterprise technology decisions actually happen — cloud modernization, data infrastructure, and AI delivery. That is where we know the talent, understand the work, and can speak to both sides of a search with real credibility.

The market in 2026 makes the generalist problem worse, not better.

Enterprise organizations are under simultaneous pressure to execute on AI initiatives, modernize aging infrastructure, and build data capability — faster than their competitors, with tighter budgets and smaller windows. The talent required to do that work is not interchangeable. A cloud architect is not a data engineer. A machine learning platform engineer is not an AI product manager. Treating the market as a single pool is how organizations end up with the wrong people in critical roles at exactly the wrong moment.

The organizations moving fastest are not the ones with the largest recruiting budgets. They are the ones with the clearest picture of what they need, access to the right candidate communities, and a partner who can close niche searches before the delay becomes a delivery risk.

That is the gap we fill.

Focused expertise moves faster

Now when you ask us the question of why we’re the right fit and what roles we’d like to help with, here is how we answer.

Answer: Last quarter, we placed a Data Scientist at a fintech firm struggling with fraud detection latency. Our selection criteria went beyond a skills match: we delivered a specialist in predictive analytics using Python and TensorFlow with direct experience rebuilding fraud detection pipelines at scale. She improved detection accuracy by 40% in four months. The difference was not a resume keyword. It was domain depth. Tell us honestly: Do you want a generalist who checks boxes, or a specialist who turns prevention into intelligence?

Once you are our client, we’d like to have these conversations with you.

Us: “Based on your current product roadmap and last sprint reviews, we see you scaling features that rely heavily on microservices. Should we prioritize candidates with Docker and Kubernetes production experience for this developer role to strengthen your deployment posture?”

You: “Yes — we’re moving toward a more containerized environment. How do we adjust the description to attract the right profile?”

That conversation only happens when your partner understands the work, not just the job title.

Specialization + Domain Depth + Partnership = Execution Advantage

That is not a tagline. It is how we are built. We do not staff across every technology domain — we go deep in the three where enterprise organizations are most exposed right now: cloud modernization, data infrastructure, and AI delivery. That focus is what lets us speak to candidates with credibility and close searches that generalist firms cannot.

We are not a generalist firm that happened to pick a technology niche. We built OpenNova from the ground up around the belief that deep specialization is the only way to deliver consistently at the level enterprise technology leaders actually need — and that the right partner shares the risk, not just the upside.

Cloud. Data. AI. Those are not buzzwords for us. They are the domains where we spend every day, where we know the practitioners, and where we understand what separates the candidates who perform from the ones who simply interview well.

The enterprises we work with are not looking for more vendors. They are looking for partners who understand the work, know the talent landscape, and can execute alongside them — not just hand off a shortlist and disappear.

If you are building in cloud, data, or AI — and you need to move faster than your current approach allows — we would be glad to talk.

Sincerely,

Ryan Alfieri & Alex Rosario
